Promoting the performance & study of piano music

The Comox Valley Piano Society was formed with a vision to promote the performance and study of piano music, to provide a quality grand piano for recitals, concerts and examinations, and to award bursaries and scholarships to piano students.

The Society began in 1990 with an eleven member committee that was dedicated to supporting and encouraging piano music in the Comox Valley. To accomplish this, the Society focused on raising funds to purchase a 7’11” Yamaha grand piano in 1992. They organized many fundraising concerts, received private donations, and obtained a substantial grant from the Vancouver Foundation.

The piano was placed at the Stanley B. Hagen Theatre at North Island College and remains there today. On May 28, 1993, it was publicly inaugurated with a concert featuring Vancouver pianist Robert Silverman.  Since that time, the Comox Valley Piano Society has maintained their commitment to the arts in the Comox Valley. The piano continues to be used for CVPS sponsored concerts and masterclasses, RCM piano examinations, studio recitals, student practice and varied community events.
