Strathcona Symphony Orchestra’s 20^th Anniversary Celebration Continues with Homage! Concerts in Campbell River and Courtenay

 After the sellout December performances honouring selections from the Strathcona Symphony Orchestra’s (SSO) audience participants, the musicians picked the program for March’s Homage! concerts at Campbell River’s 800-seat capacity Baptist Church on Saturday, March 8^th (7 pm) and Courtenay’s Filberg Centre, on Sunday, March 9^th (2 pm).

The Baptist Church is located at 260 South Dogwood Street in Campbell River and the Filberg is located at 411 Anderton Ave in Courtenay.

“This concert is particularly close to my heart as it marks the 7^th year as Music Director with this incredible orchestra,” said Ms. Helena Jung.

To round out the concert, the SSO will performing a variety of other classical and modern favourites including Smetana’s captivating The Moldau, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Sibelius’ Finlandia, Haydn’s London Symphony 1^st movement, and more.

Soprano soloist and longtime local resident, Michelle Johnson, returns to the SSO stage, singing Handel’s beautiful Lascia ch’io pianga, Strauss’ playful laughing song, Mein Herr Marquis from the operetta, Die Fledermaus, as well as conducting the Black Creek Children’s Choir.

SSO co-founder and Campbell River resident, Blaine Waldenbauer, is the orchestra’s concertmaster for the season, and he brings his expertise and talent as 1^st violin to the stage.
